Group Retreats for the Youth
Youth group retreats are held usually during summer or even during special occasions or when a unique purpose is called for. For the youth it is usually the time to share experience and learn from each other. Youth camps are somehow considered as group retreats for the youth. Religious groups also hold such retreats for the youth for them to learn more about their faith and listen or offer their opinions about their beliefs.
Whether we like it or not, it is a fact teen agers enjoy being away from mom and dad and these can be provided a solution through joining youth group retreats. This is basically because parents do know that retreats are well planned and safe, no need to worry about your kid chancing upon a troublesome group.
Becoming in charge of a youth group retreat is a very good way to learn and upgrade your leadership skills.
What would you do to start the activity rolling? Planning the retreat will be the first step to get the ball rolling. If this is your first time, it is very ideal to from a team composed of the youth and adults to help you in decision-making.
Now what should you plan for? Taking for granted that the purpose of the retreat is already in place, your team would need to decide on where to hold the retreat. Finding the right place will not be easy, during peak season holiday places and retreat houses fill up fast so better find a location fast and pick up 3-4 places to check out.
After the venue is pinpointed, be sure that the program and other miscellaneous needs are provided for. Your task as a leader will not end during the retreat itself but also until after the “storm” is all calm.
